Take your insecurities and climb the J-Pop stratosphere. I’ve never played a Fire Emblem game. Do I main Marth in Smash? Hell yeah I do. So when I snagged a French copy of a game made by the Persona folks mixing Fire Emblem and J-Pop (where are my Yakuza 5 fans?) I was stoked.
This game was originally designed for the WiiU and it shows. A compact setting mixed with lots of backtracking. There’s easy traversal, but you’ll find yourself running around a lot and leaving the dungeon to upgrade. We take for granted modern game systems like quick saves and upgrading within a dungeon.
I found myself liking the characters a lot. Is there a lot of fan service? Yes, everyone seems to fall in love with Itsuki. His main-character aloofness brings back a simpler time when you could just game and not have to worry about add ons, DLC or monetization schemes.
Even with some extra padding, I cleared the game under 50 hours. It’s pretty quick for a “Persona-like” game. If you’re jonesing for something easy to pick up, this is a gem.
